This program is held at Central Middle School with, our staff, and is offered to our student population. If you have considered a summer program for your student and want the comfort of knowing your student will be with the staff they already know and trust, this is for you. The summer session at Central Middle School will be June 7 th through the 25 th , Monday through Thursday, 8:45am until 2:00pm. Drop off is between 8:30am and 8:45am, with pick up no later than 2:30pm. We will be providing breakfast and hot lunch at this time. The primary purpose of the summer session is to focus on skills that may have atrophied while in online learning and to recover grades. We feel that this will add a bump to better prepare students for next school year by not leaving the whole summer without academic purpose. Please note that this is not a camp, and academics are the focus. If you are interested, please fill out the application. Students can also receive an application from their teachers. When students show what they know, teachers and parents can partner to promote student success. The Performance Evaluation for Alaska’s Schools (PEAKS) is Alaska’s summative assessment administered to students in Grades 3-9 (English language arts and mathematics) and grades 5, 8 and 10 (science) each spring. The purpose of a large-scale, summative assessment is to provide parents and schools an overall picture of a student’s progress in meeting the Alaska standards at his/her grade level. The assessment is taken on the computer and is not timed, but each content area takes approximately 100-180 minutes. Parents can locate resources for the PEAKS assessment, including directions for PEAKS Practice tests, called Online Tools Training and PEAKS Tutorials on the ASD website at www.asdk12.org/PEAKS . Parents can also help by ensuring their children are well-rested, eat a nutritious breakfast, and are at school on time for the days of testing. Please avoid scheduling appointments on your child’s testing days. The ASD PEAKS testing window below allows for school assessment scheduling flexibility. Students!
